Our stadium is a dynamic venue, ideally suited for holding international sporting events.
We are proud to have held several prestigious tournaments in recent years, including several England International rugby league matches, the Rugby League World Cup in 2022 and the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2022. Most recently, we had the privilege of hosing the finishing line for the Women’s Tour of Britain Cycling race in 2024.
The UEFA Women’s Euros tournament in 2022 saw LSV proudly host several international matches, including three group stage matches and a thrilling quarter final match for Sweden VS Belgium. These events were met with great enthusiasm from our local community, with a full capacity crowd attending each match. Working alongside Wigan Council, we delivered an unforgettable experience to the highest of standards, supported by vibrant fan zones in Leigh Town centre that energised the whole town and created an electric atmosphere ahead of each of the matches.
The Rugby league World Cup in 2022 saw LSV accommodating three group stage matches, Lebanon VS Jamacia, Wales VS Cook Islands and Lebanon VS Ireland which again, was greatly supported by our local community and it was a great opportunity to showcase our stadium on the international stage.
In June 2024 we were proud to represent the finishing line and podium for the Women’s Tour of Britain cycling race. Being the final leg of the race, this involved a site-wide fan zone, offering different cycling and sporting activities to take part in, encouraging further participation in grass root sports in our borough and beyond. This high-profile sporting event provided us with the opportunity to inspire and empower women and girls across the borough, encouraging further participation in Women’s sport.
