March News!

Join us as we unpack all of the LSV news, events and updates in March! This month has been really exciting as we enter our new era, setting our company mission statement and strategic objectives to work towards together.

As we move forward together in this new era, we are pleased to confirm our mission statement, which will guide all our efforts, as detailed below.

“To be the number one venue for health, education, sport & events. Ensuring that wellbeing, sporting culture and educational opportunities are equally available to all, through engagement and co-production with our local communities”

Stadium Experience Meeting at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium:

Members of our Marketing and Operations teams represented Leigh Sports Village by attending the annual in person Stadium Experience meeting at Edgbaston on 5th March alongside representatives of over 100 stadiums across the UK, which was great to be a part of. It was fantastic to be able to connect with likeminded individuals across our very unique and dynamic industry. It was great to meet suppliers, industry speakers and have a tour of the venue. The best part was the motivational talk from wheelchair rugby Paralympian, Aaron Phipps MBE who spoke about the importance of pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone to maximise on your potential. Thank you for having us, we can’t wait to attend the next one!

Employee Appreciation Day Celebrations:

On Friday, 7th March, LSV celebrated Employee Appreciation Day. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our incredible team members. Representatives from various teams came together to enjoy a fun-filled quiz and indulge in some well-deserved treats. Congratulations to Julie, Heather, Dan and Nicola- our Operations team representatives who were the winner of our quiz, we all had a great laugh together.

A big thank you to every one of you for your continuous efforts and contributions. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for all that you do.

Greengage- The Eco Smart Certification:

The stadium teams have been working hard to recognise and improve our sustainability credentials, as we now work with Greengage for our Eco Smart Certification. We can’t wait to start making new changes and be more sustainable going forwards. We are working towards being Carbon net Zero in 2038 in line with Wigan Council, so your help and co-operation in helping us to get to this target will be most welcome!

A record-breaking weekend at the Hide:

A massive congratulations to the team at the Hide Coffee House for a record-breaking anniversary weekend. The 8th and 9th of March brought lovely weather across the Borough, attracting a large number of visitors to the flash. Thank you to the team for your hard work and dedication, your efforts are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed. And we hope the beautiful weather continues over the coming months!

Jet 2 take flight at LSV Arena:

It was a pleasure to welcome Jet 2 back at the Arena this month as the Liverpool and Manchester crews went head-to-head in a football friendly. The game was filled with great sportsmanship and competitive energy from both sides. The Manchester team won with a final score of 5-4, well done to both sets of teams for your efforts!

Wigan and Leigh Hospices’ Afternoon Tea:

Our Marketing Team represented LSV by attending the Wigan and Leigh Hospices’ Ladies Afternoon Tea event on Friday 21st March. This important event raised a fundamental £1400.00 for the Hospice, which will make a great difference for patient and family care. It was a pleasure to host this event in our Banqueting Suite and be the official drinks reception sponsor, we can’t wait to welcome the hospice team back again soon.

Supporting Wigan Youth Zone:

Leigh Sports Village made a generous contribution to Wigan Youth Zone’s Annual Ball by donating a raffle prize. This event was a huge success as it raised over £60,000 for their wellbeing services, surpassing their target. This was warmly acknowledged by the CEO, Anothony Ashworth-Steen who said, “This would not have been possible without the support of you and other likeminded people; therefore, I wanted to reach out today to say thank you so much for your support of the event by donating a table for ten at Man Utd Women. Thank you, once again, for everything you have done for our charity – it means the world to me and, more importantly, the young people we serve.” Together, we are making a significant difference in the lives of young people in our community.

Harvey’s Work Experience at the Hide:

The Hide has welcomed Harvey, a work experience student from Hope College in Wigan. Over the past six months, Harvey’s confidence has flourished, and his skill set has expanded significantly. During his time at The Hide, he has gained valuable insights into the various aspects of our daily operations. We are excited to see how Harvey continues to grow and what new skills he will gain in the future.

Ben’s Work Experience With Pennington Flash:

The team at Pennington Flash had the pleasure of welcoming Ben Turner for a week of work experience. Ben, who is a student from Golborne High School, has been thoroughly enjoying his time at the Flash over the last week. The team has been very impressed by his potential and have offered Ben a casual position within the team, starting after he completes his studies this summer. Great job, Ben and the Pennington Flash team!

We can’t wait to update you all next month on the amazing achievements being made around site.
