February News!

Another 80’s Disco Night Success:

February started on a high with our 80’s night returning to LSV. Our guests enjoyed an arrival drink, two course buffet in our Legends Suite and an 80’s themed disco. The night was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended. It was great to see lots of teamwork across departments for this event, including support from the team at the Hub helping our events team to construct the balloon weights for the table centrepieces, teamwork makes the dream work! Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this event a repeated success.

Wigan and Leigh Hospice Business Networking Meeting:

Rachel Traynor and Megan Sumner represented Leigh Sports Village by attending the Wigan and Leigh Hospice Business Networking Meeting on Wednesday 5th February at the Mercure Haydock Hotel. It was lovely to be able to support our mayor’s charity in their upcoming fundraising event, including the Ladies Afternoon Tea event on 21st March, which we are the proud sponsors of. It was great to be able to network with other local likeminded businesses and form valuable connections.

Following this, Christa Farnell and Megan Sumner visited the Hospice as part of their Random Act of Kindness Day, delivering Easter Eggs for their Easter fair and all the families who are under their care.

Random Act of Kindness Day at LSV:

On Monday 17th February we embarrassed Random Act of Kindness Day at LSV by surprising our staff with motivational cupcakes, it was lovely to be able to give back and spread some positivity and appreciation across the site.

Thinking Differently at LSV: Progress with Unity:

Well done to our Safety Officer, Steve Howard who during one of our Manchester United U21’s matches adopted a thoughtful approach for one of our customers, allowing them to pray in a safe and inclusive space.  His dedication in adopting a Person-Centred Approach aligns with the new Wigan Council Progress with Unity strategy.  Our customer, Usman Bangee, reflected on his experience and said “I’d just like to extent my thanks and gratitude at LSV and Manchester United for being so accommodating towards my request for space for prayers at the game last night and a special thanks to Stephen who showed me the way to the area. Once again, thank you very much.” Well done again Steve.

Leopards’ Return:

The Greatest Show in Super League! The Leigh Leopards have made a triumphant return to Leigh Sports Village for their 2025 Super League season, following their Round 1 victory over the Wigan Warriors. The first match at LSV featured a spectacular grand opening for the Leopards’ fans, complete with fireworks and a laser show projected onto the West Stand. It was heart-warming to see so many enthusiastic fans back at the stadium, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Derek Beaumont also welcomed Leeto back to LSV, along with the addition of Lerato. Congratulations once again to the Leopards on their first home win of the 2025 season against the Huddersfield Giants.

Leigh Youth Hub’s Family Fun Day:

Saturday 15th February saw the return of the Leigh Youth Hub’s Family Fun Day, highlighting the provision the Hub offers to the local community. There were lots of exciting activities to enjoy from baking to gym challenges (with prizes) football skills, axe throwing, climbing wall and more! Well done to the team in working hard together on making this event a success as over 300 people accessed the fun day. It was a great team effort! THANK YOU, to all our partners, patrons, and staff across the site for their incredible support in making the event a success, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Pennington Flash

Work Experience Programme:

The team at Pennington Flash organized a three-week work experience program in collaboration with Wigan and Leigh College. More than 25 students took part in this program, gaining practical skills through hands-on activities. They learned to construct a secure fence line, fell small trees using various saws, and cleared a large area of bramble to help restore the East Bay viewing point. Kudos to everyone who participated, contributing to the skill development of future generations.

Path Improvement Works:

Pennington Flash has some exciting path improvement works scheduled, with details finalized this month. The goal is to meet the needs of all visitors by enhancing the pathway from the St Helens Road main entrance into the park. This priority project has been in the works for some time, so it’s thrilling to see it scheduled to start on March 10th.

We can’t wait to see what March has in store for us!
